I hope all of you enjoyed a peaceful and joyous holiday season. I know I did relish the lull in the hub-bub between the petition gathering season and the onset of the campaign. As I relaxed by the fire with a nice cup of hot chocolate on New Year’s Day, I thought how nice it was to have a little relief from hectic campaign activities. As I lifted my mug to sip the rich, creamy concoction, I noticed an elephant standing on a marshmallow, waving its arms, frantically looking for help. Why was the elephant standing on the marshmallow? So he wouldn’t fall into the hot chocolate, of course.
Those little elephants can be tricky, especially when they look so vulnerable in your hot chocolate. Two years ago, they convinced many strong Democrats to cross over and vote in their primary to vote for a candidate who would be a “lesser evil” in the General Election for Governor (and for State Representative in Downers Grove). How did that turn out? We ended up with a Governor who is bent on cutting services to the most vulnerable.
The key thing in the 2016 election cycle is to get Democrats out to vote. We have a 3-way primary for President and a contested primary for the U.S. Senate. It is time to go out and make the case for the candidate you are supporting to friends and family members. Help to get them excited about the election! We cannot afford to have any Democrats sitting out this election, or worse, crossing over because they think it will influence the outcome of the Republican presidential primary. It won’t.
These next few weeks are critical to a positive outcome in November. If you have never taken the opportunity to get involved, there is no better time to start. We have a lot of work to do and we need your help.
Don’t forget, if you see an elephant going down for the 3rdtime in your hot chocolate. Shake your head and just say no! Then go out and round up some Democratic votes!
