Downers Grove Township Democrats
Precinct Committeeman “Getting Ready for the Primary” Checklist
Things to do in your precinct before the March 15 primary.
ü The Election Commission should send you an updated list of voters after registration closes on Feb. 16. You may also request a list from the Election Commission at www.dupageco.org/elections/candidates_and_campaigns. This list can be mailed to you or you can have it sent to you electronically. You can also order mailing labels if you would like to mail information to your voters. You can request labels for only Democratic and Independent households.
ü Plan to attend the regular monthly meeting of the Downers Grove Township Democratic Organization, Wednesday evening, February 10 at 7:30. There you can pick up materials such as sample ballots, Vote by Mail applications, and candidate literature and ask any questions you might have.
ü Register voters through Tuesday, Feb. 16. Don’t forget 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by Nov. 8. Return registrations to Election Commission by Feb. 17.
ü Inform Democratic and Independent voters in your precinct about “Grace Period” Registration and Voting. If voters miss the February 16 deadline for registering, they may still register and vote at the Election Commission office between February 17 and March 15. Or, they may register and vote at Early Voting locations from Feb 29 to March 12.
ü Inform Democratic and Independent voters in your precinct about Early Voting, Feb. 29 through March 12. We have an Early Voting location in our township at the Downers Grove Village Hall, 801 Burlington Avenue, Downers Grove, open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
ü Encourage Democratic voters to Vote by Mail. Every Democrat who votes by mail is a “vote in the bank”. You can encourage your voters to register to Vote by Mail on the Election Commission website, www.dupageco.org/election/voting. Or you can go to the same website and download and print off copies of the registration form and pass them out in your precinct. We will also have some applications you can pick up at our meeting.
ü Deliver or mail out a packet of the above information to the Democratic and Independent households in your precinct. You can include a sample Democratic primary ballot. You can include a message from you about how important it is to vote Democratic in the primary and support our democratic candidates.
ü Keep track of who has Voted Early or requested Vote by Mail ballots in your precinct. Kim will provide this list to you, or you can get it from the Election Commission website. Contact those who requested Vote by Mail ballots and remind them to send in their ballots.
Watch for our March newsletter in which we will provide a checklist for Getting Out the Vote on March 15.
