We have just finished an intense election cycle. While everything did not turn out as we had hoped, there is much to celebrate! Tammy Duckworth was elected to the U.S. Senate, Susana Mendoza won the special election for Illinois Comptroller, and Liz Chaplin was reelected to the DuPage County Board! To top that off, Hillary Clinton received 52% of the vote in Downers Grove Township. More than half of the voters in our township voted for the Democratic candidate for President again.
I would like to express appreciation to all of the candidates who ran on our behalf; the hundreds of volunteers who supported them; the contributors who made it possible to rent a campaign headquarters; everyone who donated water, snacks, and office supplies; and your positive energy that carried us through Election Day.
So, what happens next?
- Selection of candidates at our Democratic Township Caucus on December 6 for the April Consolidated Election.
- We have extended our office lease through April to support candidates for Township and other races.
- More organizing, voter outreach, and rapid response to educate voters, combat destructive policies, and building our Democratic community.
Due to the Caucus, we will not have a regular monthly meeting in December. We do invite you to join us for our Holiday Party on December 14.
Thanks for being part of the movement. Keep the faith.
