Mehrunisa Qayyum, Candidate for Township Trustee
*You should care because:
#1 The Township may be redundant, but it is a taxing body and we should all care…It is OUR money. The township takes care of roads in unincorporated areas, provides general assistance to those who are in need and services to youth and seniors. All of these services could be handled by other entities such as the county, various municipalities and schools, but while township government exists, we should make sure it is efficient and accountable.
#2 There is not and has never been a Democrat on the Downers Grove Township Board or in township elected offices. The Republicans seem to consider the township to be their special little fiefdom. If we can elect some Democrats to township board or offices, it will be a real blow to the local Republican Party.
#3 The way to build a strong backbench of Democrats, who will take the lead on state and national politics, is to groom them at the most local levels. Electing Democrats locally helps the Democratic Party statewide and nationally because we are the grass roots—it makes us stronger!
PLEASE SUPPORT THESE CANDIDATES AND SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THEM. …AND MAKE SURE YOU VOTE AND HELP US GET YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS TO THE POLLS TO VOTE FOR OUR EXCELLENT TOWNSHIP SLATE.
