Reckless Cruelties

By Carla Feinkind

On January 27th Trump signed an order which suspended entry of all refugees to the U.S. for 120 days, halted admission of refugees from Syria indefinitely and barred entry for 3 months to residents from the predominantly Muslim countries of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen*  Within 24 hours refugees who had endured careful vetting for over 2 years and who were just arriving at U.S. airports, along with hundreds of Muslim travelers INCLUDING Green Card holders, were detained and denied entry for national security! One day later, TENS of THOUSANDS demonstrated against Trump’s Muslin ban and to free those detained at airports.

Although Trump repeated his call for a Muslim ban during the campaign, many elected Republicans and party leaders opposed such a ban based on religion. Generals and security experts thought it was an awful idea that would put our nation in greater danger and weaken our relations with allies in the Middle East and Europe. But most Republicans went along with Trump’s claim that the ban was necessary “to protect the nation”. Speaker Ryan lined right up. Other Republicans were simply silent. So far only McCain and Graham have spoken out.

It is speculated that Trump’s trusted chief White House strategist, the Alt Right/ White Supremacist/ Nazi sympathizer, Steven Bannon, wrote the order.  Trump put this hater on the National Security Council while removing real security experts like the director of the National Intelligence Agency and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from the Council.

NOW, it is UP TO US!!! MAKE SURE TO CONTACT YOUR PEOPLE IN CONGRESS. (See the phone number contact list in this newsletter) MAKE SURE THE GOP KNOWS THAT THEY OWN TRUMP AND HIS RECKLESS CRUELTY. DO NOT BE SILENT!!!  ALSO, DO NOT FORGET TO CALL TO OPPOSE THE REPEAL OF THE ACA AND TRUMP’S EGREGIOUS CABINET PICKS.  DO NOT BE SILENT …MAKE NOISE!!! Your silence will enable the GOP and Trump to tell the lie that Americans agree with their hate.  MAKE NOISE!

*Since 9/11 no one has been killed in the U.S. in a terrorist attack by anyone who emigrated from, or whose parents emigrated from, one of the 7 countries named in the Trump ban.  And what about countries that were not on the list like Saudi Arabia and Egypt where most of the 9/11 al Qaeda terrorist highjackers were from?  None of the Muslim countries where Trump has major business ventures were on the list, despite histories of persistent extremism and jihadist organizations.
