Pulling it together after a loss – Anne Sommerkamp

Pulling It Together After a Loss Is Critical for Dems.

Let’s unite at all levels to build the Blue Wave!

“If we think of fascism as a wound from the past that had almost healed, putting Trump in the White House was like ripping off the bandage and picking at the scab.”  – Madeleine Albright
I ran for State Representative in District 47 in 2018 after running for Downers Grove Township Clerk in April 2017.  Stepping up to run gave me the opportunity to meet and hear people out.  I may have lost the primary, but I am not finished.  I will continue speaking for our neighbors.  I will bring the voice of change to promote issues I am passionate about like sensible gun legislation and green energy.  I will work to get every Democrat elected, including my primary opponent, Jim Caffrey.
The Democratic party has to unite and take every seat possible in the midterms.  We cannot sit by and allow the Republican party under Donald Trump become the new normal.  THIS IS NOT NORMAL.  Don’t close your eyes and wait for the worst to pass.  There’s far too much at stake.  Vote.  Donate.  March.  Speak out.  Run for office (again).  Volunteer.  Read.  Argue.
The ”sexy” races are grand.  Go.  Get involved.  Work hard.  I detest Peter Roskam and Bruce Rauner as politicians.  When folks “woke” after Trump’s election and after the Women’s March I was happy people had finally seen the light.  But here’s the thing, just like you can walk and chew gum at the same time; you can volunteer for Casten or Pritzker anda down ballot candidate at the same time!
DuPage County is on the verge of turning blue, as evidenced by every election since Trump’s inauguration.  The number and percent of Democrats voting is higher than ever!  15 years ago, a Democrat who had the courage to get on the ballot in DuPage County could count on getting 33% of the vote in a down ticket race.  Obama won here twice and Hillary took DuPage in presidential elections, but down ticket races have continued to go Republican – so far!
I believe Democrats can and will WIN in DuPage, but while you are giving your time to the “Big Boys” remember who, what, and how much money they have behind them.  Then check how much money the down ticket Democrats in your area has compared to the Republicans they are running against.  Find their contact information at dgdemocrats.com and find out what you can do – phone-banking, knocking on doors, or anything else – to help a State Senate, State Rep, County Board, Forest Preserve or Judicial candidate win and make this “Blue Tsunami” hit as hard as we all want.
