DGTD’s hard work to successfully flip DuPage County blue in the race for governor has become official. This Monday, JB Pritzker was sworn in as Illinois’ 43rdgovernor, along with Juliana Stratton as Illinois’ first African American woman lieutenant governor in history! Governor Pritzker outlined his desire to work together to tackle many of the state’s challenges and move forward. This included fixing the state’s regressive tax system, improving infrastructure, legalizing recreational marijuana and passing responsible and balanced budgets. The Governor added, “But be clear about this: I won’t balance the budget on the backs of the starving, the sick, and the suffering. I won’t hollow out the functions of government to achieve an ideological agenda. I won’t make government the enemy and government employees the scapegoats.”

Governor Pritzker wasted no time getting to work on his fist full day in office, signing two executive orders to protect workers’ rights, wages, and public sector employees. The executive orders strengthen prevailing wage laws, restore pay benefits to pubic workers, and prevent female workers from being asked to provide past payment history that could cause a lower salary to be offered.
