IT’S WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH! DOES THAT STILL MATTER?
By Carla Feinkind
April 4th is midterm elections. Of course, Early Voting started and on March 6th, my husband and I took our completed mail in ballots to the Post office to get them HAND STAMPED and DATED.
It’s just LOCAL elections. Why did we bother? Hey, local government has a tremendous affect on our lives –. school boards, libraries, and more. Also, lots of people who later run for higher offices cut their “teeth” in local elections and positions.
Democracy is a “funny” thing. Either you stay involved and informed …or your FREEDOMS are weakened!
Remember when Roe was passed! Both of my grandmothers (who did NOT know each other) had back alley abortions (actually in the back bedrooms of midwives). It was the Depression and they were both POOR immigrants raising their kids AND working. Obviously, women ALWAYS had terminations. BUT, they didn’t always survive. My grandmothers were lucky and so were we!
Women have had REAL autonomy until THIS GOP made it a party platform to OUTLAW abortions and in some RED states to prosecute doctors who provide one even for MEDICAL reasons! AND, NOW THE GOP IS GOING AFTER BIRTH CONTROL PILLS (AND YES, PILLS FOR EARLY ABORTIONS)
It turns out that ALL elections matter and WE ALL MUST BE INFORMED and VOTE! KEEP TALKING WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS! LET’S TAKE BACK OUR FREEDOMS & NATION!
