MESSAGE FROM ALEXI GIANNOULIAS – PROTECT LIBRARIES

MAY 5, 2023, MESSAGE FROM ALEXI GIANNOULIAS:
First 100 days: Protecting our libraries

When I took office, people told me that being in office was a marathon, not a sprint. Thanks to an exceptional team in the Secretary of State’s office and amazing partners in Illinois government, we are running at record pace.

Two days ago, we earned another big win when our legislation against book bans passed in the Illinois Senate. This legislation is the first of its kind in the country, and I’m so proud that Illinois is leading the country on this front.

As the State’s Chief Librarian, fighting for libraries has been a priority for my first 100 Days. We also executed an ambitious 100 Day plan for all the functions in the nation’s largest Secretary of State’s office.
Our modernization plan keeps moving forward. We’ve introduced legislation to remove an arcane ban on hanging air fresheners from rearview mirrors, meaning fewer discriminatory traffic stops. Several Secretary of State driver services facilities now have appointment and skip the line systems.

I also want to recognize the importance of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month. My office has highlighted prominent community members, and I’m proud to continue to prioritize diversity and equity in everything we do. Throughout the month, we will celebrate the contributions of the AAPI and Jewish communities.
Thank you for your continued support as we deliver on campaign promises, and I hope you’ll keep following along!

Sincerely,
Alexi
